2021 BOIA Annual Meeting

Watch the 2021 BOIA Annual Meeting below or at https://youtu.be/lxLv_EFwUrs.

Thank you to the 80+ people who turned out for the Baywood Owners Improvement Association Annual Meeting...our biggest turn out ever!

As you can see from the Agenda, we had lots of great information to share with our neighbors, including special guest appearances by Baywood Elementary kindergarteners singing the "Mr. Sun" and "Baywood School" songs (!), a multitude of Borel Middle School music and arts groups, and amazingly talented Aragon student dancers and photographers sharing their work...all introduced by proud father and BOIA Board member, Scott Long. Congratulations to all the students and their teachers for bringing us such joy and energy!

BOIA Outgoing President Mark Grieco shared the wonderful neighborhood events that occurred over the past year...in spite of COVID-19...and the plans we have for favorites like the Baywood Social and Baywood Yard Sale later this year when health conditions permit.

Cheryl Angeles, Pres. & CEO of the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce, shared heartfelt stories of the many ways the Chamber and the City have worked overtime to support our San Mateo small businesses. She stressed...and our Mayor, Eric Rodriguez, later underlined...the critical importance of residents shopping and dining locally and often to help our small businesses make it through these very tough economic times. So have dinner downtown and do some shopping there this weekend!

We were honored that Sgt. Lupe Mejia joined us to give an update on what the San Mateo Police are doing to protect our neighborhoods and share the new Police Accountability & Data Transparency Interactive Page that lets residents stay up to date on policing data, traffic collision information and a Citywide crime map. She encouraged everyone to join Neighborhood Watch and to be the eyes and ears of our City by sharing what they see that concerns them with the Police. Our Mayor Eric Rodriguez then shared the highlights of his 2021 State of the City address and took questions for over an hour from the audience. The questions covered everything from traffic and parking issues to how residents can get involved in the important General Plan 2040 planning going on right now to open space needs for recreation to the latest on street reconstruction in Baywood and the Alameda and Parrott intersection (spoiler alert: be on the look out for those ugly white poles to be converted to attractive planter boxes early this summer...yeah!). Mayor Rodriguez stressed how important it was for neighborhoods to make our voices heard on important City issues that affect us all. Baywood will always answer that call! Mayor Rodriguez also said that our meeting was the best attended neighborhood meeting he's been to yet and that Baywood was one of the strongest neighborhoods in Baywood...hats off to all our Baywood neighbors!
